Sensex adds 162 Points - April 4, 2007 - Closing Bell

The markets took a recovery strategy continuing with yesterday after the first trading session of the financial year has turned out disastrous. Sensex opened in the morning at 12,691.24 and closed at 12,786.77 adding 162.19 points or 1.28%. nifty closed at 3733.25 up 1.15%

Sensex Midcap and Smallcap closed marginally high. Midcap index gained 43.71 while Smallcap closed up by 72.84. Auto and FMCG sectors gave a disappointing note.  Consumer Goods and Health Care indices closed +2%.

Hindustan Zinc, Sterlite Industries, Crompton Greaves Ltd., Guj Min Devl, Titan Ind., Housing Development Finance Co, Micro Inks, J&k Bank, Zee Entertainment and Gujarat Gas topped the charts on Sensex today. Syngenta Ltd, Jaiprak Asso, Proctor Gamb, Bank of India, India Cement, Jet Airways, Ramco System, Herohonda, Contain Corp and UTI Bank topped the losers list.

BOI shareholding appointment as sole agent to collect stamp duty on brokers turnover

We are pleased to inform you that Government of Maharashtra (GOM) has authorised BOI Shareholding Ltd. (BOISL), to collect Broker Turnover Stamp Duty (Clearance List) w.e.f. April 1, 2007. BOISL will be the sole agent for collection of Clearance list for both the Stock Exchanges BSE & NSE.

In the year 2004, GOM has issued license of stamp duty franking to various vendors. BOISL was among the first vendors to procure license of franking of stamp duty documents and is providing its franking services to general customers. In 2006, BOISL was also authorised as the sole agent for franking of “Share transfer Deed” documents by GOM. BOISL is also authorised by GOM for sale of Judicial & Non-Judicial Stamp papers.

Considering the efficient service, excellent track record, expertise and past experience of BOISL, GOM has decided to assign the job of collection of turnover of stamp duty to BOISL once again. An agreement to this effect has been signed between the officials of GOM & BOISL on March 22, 2006.

In a small function organised by BOISL on April 4, 2007 in its premises, Shri K. R. Kamath, Executive Director, Bank of India inaugurated the services in presence of Shri Rajnikant Patel, Managing Director & CEO, BSE Ltd.  The Broker community was present at large along with senior officials of Bank of India, BSE Ltd., and Stamp Officials. The Chief Guest of the function was Shri Rajesh Narvekar, Superintendent of Stamps, Mumbai. It may be noted that BOISL which is a subsidiary of Bank of India in joint venture with BSE Ltd., has established itself as one of the leader in franking of stamp duty in various agreements, besides its core activity of functioning as a Clearing House of BSE Ltd.

Markets remain volatile amidst confusion in taking a course - April 4, 2007 - 3:15 PM

NIFTY is at 3738.90 while SENSEX is at 12,812.01. BSE Auto index just dipped into red. Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and Metal stocks continued to get favor.

Top gainers on Nifty so far include Sterlite Industries, Zee Limited, HDFC, BHEL, Reliance Petrol, Dr. Reddy, HCL Tech, Wipro, ABB and Cipla. The losers list included Hero Honda, Satyam, Grasim, Dabur, Maruti, HLL, Reliance Communications, Gujarat Ambhuja, ITC and Dabur.

Bank stocks holding gains; IT, Auto loose favor - April 4, 2007 - 12: 35 PM

Stock markets are continuing to hold the early gains. NIFTY is at 3736.40 (1.24%) and SENSEX is at 12,776.82 (%152.24 pts; +1.21%).

Capital goods and Metal stocks are holding their gains while IT and Auto are loosing favor.

Markets open positive - NIFTY at 3747.35 pts - April 4, 2007

Indian Stock Markets opened on a positive note. NIFTY is up 3747.35 as against its previous closure of 3690.65 and has gained 1.54%. Sensex opened at 12,691.24 and is currently trading at 12,833.89 (+209.31 pts or +1.66%)

Banking and IT stocks looks positive. Midcap and Smallcap indices are up by over 1.4%. Bank, Capital Goods, Metal and PSU stocks are gaining and are currently at over 2%.
