Sensex closed the day moving to 12,856.08 points and gaining 69.31 points (0.54%) in todays trade. Nifty closed at 3752.00 and gained 0.50%
BSE Midcap index is up by 39.88 points while the Smallcap index added 69.89 points.
Sans the Oil & Gas Sectoral index, all other indices closed in postive. Metal sectoral index gained by 3% adding 256.89 points in todays trade. Stocks in the banking sector too fared well today. Bank Nifty scaled to 5129.20 points and is up by 1.94%
Technology stocks had a mixed day today. On the CNX IT, 10 stocks advanced and an equal number declined too. Amongst the gainers list are Finantech (+4%), Patni (+2%), Hexaware (+1%), Wipro and GTL (both marginally up). Stocks on the declining list included Iflex (-2%), Mastek, Polaris, CMC and Subex (all -1%).
The Banking stocks fared reasonably well. On the Bank Nifty, 11 stocks advanced while only 1 stock too a decline course. Union Bank added 6% followed bty OBC (+5%), Bank of Baroda (+4.6%), PNB (+3.6% and Canara Bank (+2.7%). The only declining bank stock on this index is UTI Bank which lost 1.58%. The script closed at 451.45.
Toppers on the Nifty 50 today are Zee Limited (+6.9%), Tata Steel (+6.2%), PNB (+3.6), GAIL, Reliance, SAIL, Grasim, HPCL, ICICI Bank and HDFC (all up by over 2%).
Losers on Nifty 50 are Dr. Reddy (-2%), Sun Pharma, Hero Honda (both -1%), Sterlite, Reliance Petroleum, Tata Power, TCS, Reliance, Bajaj Auto and Reliance Communications (marginally in red).
