Sensex adds 321.66 points - April 9, 2007

The Indian Stock Markets had a great time today with the bulls coming back to the scene. The Sensex that closed at 12,856.08 during the previous trading session opened this morning at 12,904.85 and closed the day at 13,177.74 adding 321.66 points or 2.50% in todays trade. The Midcaps haven’t gone up as much. The Sensex Midcap index is up by 1.87% while the Smallcap index is up by 2.00%

All BSE Sectoral indices closed in the green. Bank, FMCG and Metal indices are up by over 3%. Consumer Durables index that looked dull during the mid-day recovered well. The index closed at +2.75%

Nifty closed the day at 3843.50 and is up by 2.44%. Nifty Junior is up by 2.97% while CNX 100 is up by 2.51%. CNX IT is up 2.07% while Bank Nifty is up 3.79%

Top gainers on the Sensex today are UTI Bank, Infra Dev Fin, Kotak Bank, Parsvnath, India Cement, Tata Steel, Bank of Baroda, Sobha Dev, CESC and ITC.

Top gainers on Nifty are Tata Steel (+6%), Reliance Communications, ITC, Grasim, Maruti, SBI (all +4%), MTNL, PNB, Siemens and L&T (all +3%). Top losers on Nifty today are Dabur (-1%), Zee Limited, National Aluminum, Bajaj Auto, GAIL and Dr. Reddy (all marginally low).

All 12 stocks on the Bank Nifty closed in the green and is led by UTI Bank (+10%), Kotak Bank (+7%), Bank of Baroda (+5%), SBI (+4%) and PNB (+3%). Todays trade in the Banking stocks looked like the traders have all forgot of the CRR hike that haunted the markets for the past few trading sessions.

IT stocks too have led their hand in the bulls party today. Of the 20 stock CNX IT, 18 advanced and 2 declined. Finantech (+5%), CMC, Tata Elxi (both +3%), Tech Mahindra and Infosys (both +2%) topped the charts while Subex and HCL Insys closed marginally in the red.
