Sensex down by 69.43 at closing bell - April 12, 2007

The markets did not take up much trading activity today which is visible from the poor trading today. NIFTY that closed yesterday at 3862.65 closed today at 3829.85 and is -0.85%. Sensex closed at 13,113.81 losing 69.43 points in todays trade and closed down by 0.53%. Midcap index closed -0.08% while Smallcap index closed -0.43%

Metal stocks that looks reasonably well off from the volatility all these days finally had some pain in todays session. The BSE Metal index was down by 2.24% today.Not a big day for sectors like Bankex, FMCG, Oil & Gas and PSU as each of the indices closed down by near about 1%. IT stocks closed the day in the positive. BSE IT index is up 1.49%

Major gainers on the Sensex today are Parsvnath, Apollo Hospitals, Rolta, Great Eastern, Jet Airways, CESC Ltd, Bajaj Auto, Bank of India, MPhasis Ltd and Finolex Cables. Major losers of the day are Power Finance, Jindal Steel, Zee Entertainment, Indian Bank, Geometric Softwware, ING Vysya Bank, ONGC, Tata Steel, Punj Lloyd and Ranbaxy.

Looking at the NSE, top Nifty 50 gainers of the day are Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Grasim, Satyam Computers, HLL, TCS, Dr. Reddy, Siemens, Dabur and Glaxo while the top losers charts included Zee Limited, GAIL, ONGC, Tata Steel, Maruti, HDFC, ITC, National Aluminium, Ranbaxy and HDFC Bank.

In the CNX IT, 13 stocks advanced and 7 declined. Rolta, Infosys, MPhasis, Hexaware and IFlex topped the gainers list while FinanTech, Tata Elxi, GTL, Patni and Wipro were in the losers list.

Another bad day for the Banking stocks today. Bank Nifty had 2 stocks advancing while 10 declined. The gainers in this pack were Bank of India that gained about 2% and Union Bank that marginally closed in the green. The losers pack was lead by OBC and HDFC Bank. Both the scripts lost over 2% in todays trade. HDFC Bank last traded at 958.35 as opposite to its opening of 970. Other Banking stock losers are Corporation Bank, State Bank of India and Kotak Bank that closed the day down by 1% each.

Markets continue to stay in red; Sensex down by 45.22 points - April 12, 2007 - 12:30 PM

Volatility continued to stay in the markets as both NSE and BSE recovers from the lows of the morning. NSE Nifty is at 3842.55 (-0.52%) while Sensex is at 13,138.02 having lost 45.22 points or -0.34 so far. Midcap and Smallcap indices are in the green zone. Looking at the Sectoral indices, Bankex is down by 1% while the Metal stocks are positive and are up 1.1% All other indices are either marginally low or marginally high and there are no signs of good movement in the positive.

On the gainers list so far, BSE reports Apollo Hospitals, Parsvanath, CESC, Ispat Industries, Hexawaare, Finolex Cables, Bajaj Auto, Shipping Corporation, Great Eastern and Titan to be in the green topping the charts. On the losers list are Syngenta, Geometric Software, HDFC, Zee Entertainment, Jindal, HDFC Bank, Maruti Udyog, ONGC, Balaji Tele and Indian Bank.

Sensex opens low; Down by 121 points - April 12, 2007

The markets opened weak in line with the global trends. Nifty is at 3829.20 having lost 0.87%. Sensex is currently at 13,062.08 and has shed 121.16 points. Midcap and Smallcap indices are marginally in the red.

Banking stocks seems to be the worst hit with both BSE Bankex and NSE Bank Nifty currently down by over 1.5%. Almost all sectoral indices are trading marginally in the red.
