Sensex closes up 311.50 - April 16, 2007

Cheer seers to be back in the markets today. The Sensex closed up 311.50 points at 13,695.58 and has gained 2.33% in the process. Midcap index is up 1.60% while Smallcap index is up 1.89%. Oil stocks took a rally today. The Oil & Gas Sectoral index on the BSE closed up 3.11%. Metal index is up 2.76%, FMCG up 2.62%, Capital goods index that was dull during the past session is up today by 2.9%. PSU and Consumer Durables were up over 2%.

The markets started up this morning and had a rather flat day till the last few minutes for the closing bell at which time they gained few more points. Nifty closed the day at 4013.35 and is up 2.45%. CNX IT is up 1.87%. Bank Nifty is up 1.36%.

Top gainers on Sensex today are Punj Lloyd, Suzlon Energy, Tata Elxsi, Titan Industries, Zee Entertainment, Balaji Tele, Str Optical, Crompton Greaves, Hexaware and Wyeth Ltd. Sensex losers list includes CMC Limited, Syngenta Ltd, Nestle, Hindustan Zinc, EIH Limited, Indian Bank, Shipping Corporation, Siemens Ltd, National Aluminum and HDFC Bank.

Nifty 50 gainers list of the day had Suzlon at the top. The script is up 7.69% today. Other toppers are Zee Limited, ACC, Tata Steel, Reliance Communication, Grasim, Tata Power, Gujarat Ambhuja Cement and HLL. The losers list had Siemens, National Aluminium, HDFC Bank, Satyam Computers, ABB and Sun Pharma.

In the Bank Nifty, 10 stocks advanced, 1 declined and 1 remained unchanged. Canara Bank is up 4.1% Corporation Bank, Bank of India and PNB are up over 2% while ICICI Bank is up 1.6%. HDFC Bank closed at 974.95 and is marginally down.

On CNX IT, 17 scripts advanced and 3 declined. Tata Elxsi is up 7.4%. Hexaware is up 5%. IFlex is up 4.8% and HCL Insys and Polaris are up 3%. On the losers list are CMC (-4.8%), Satyam Computers and Finantech (both marginally down).

USD/INR is at 41.92.

Markets stay flat after initial gains - April 16, 2007

The markets that had a plunge at opening time remained more or less flat. Nifty is at 3996.00 and is up 2.02%. CNX IT too is up 2.04% while Bank Nifty is at 1.40%.

Sensex is at 13,632.09 and has gained 248.01 points and is up by 1.85%. Midcap and Smallcap indices have gained 1.5% and 1.8% respectively. Consumer Goods, FMCG and Oil & Gas sectoral indices have crossed up 2% mark now. Health care sectoral index is up 0.95%.

Top gainers on the Sensex today are Tata Elxsi, Suzlon Energy, IPCL Lab, Str Optical, Punj Lloyd, Zee Entertainment, Mangalore Refineries, Ramco Systems, Castrol India and Polaris Lab. Top losers on the Sensex so far are CMC Limited, EIH Limited, Sungenta, Nestle, Sun TV, BPCL, Shipping Corporation, Gujarat Gas and National Aluminium.

Markets opens on a positive note - April 16, 2007

After the positive indications from Infosys Technologies in its annual guidance and a seemingly positive opening by the Asian markets, the Indian stock markets opened the day on a positive note.

NSE is at 3981.30 as against its previous closure of 3917.35 and is up 1.63%. CNX IT is up by 2.32% while Bank Nifty is up by 1.40%.

The Sensex zoomed up 198.34 points within few minutes of the opening bell. The Sensex is at 13,582.42 and is up 1.48%. The Midcap and Smallcap indices are up 1.25% and 1.50% respectively. Sensex sectoral indices too are in green. IT index is up 1.92%. Bankex and FMCG are up by 1.5%.
