The markets had a volatile session today but in the end have closed a little lower. Nifty closed at 3984.95 (-0.71%) and Sensex closed at 13,607.04 and lost 88.54 points. Midcap and Smallcap indices too closed marginally weak. Stocks in the IT sector saw selling today. BSE IT Index is down 2.48%; FMCG down 1.1%, Consumer Durables down 1.15%, Metal down 1.29%. Bank and Oil Sectoral indices manged to close in green.
Top gainers on the Sensex today are Alfa Laval, Syngenta, Birla Corp, Sundicate, Balaji Tele, Great Eastern, Indian Overseas, HPCL, Corporation Bank and IFlex. Top losers are Hexaware, BHEL, Satyam, Container Corporation, CMC, Orchid Chemicals, Ramco Systems, Moser Baer, Polaris Lab and Tata Elxsi.

The media had reports on April 14, 2007 that Videocon Industries Limited may set up a semiconductor design-cum-fabrication complex near Kolkata with an “initial investment” of Rs 1,000 crore.
The Exchange, in order to verify the accuracy or otherwise of the information reported in the media and to inform the market place so that the interest of the investors is safeguarded, had written to the officials of the company.
Videocon Industries Limited has vide its letter inter-alia stated,”As a part of overall growth strategy of the Company, we continue to discuss various opportunities and proposals with different entities and agencies. The Group has sizeable presence in the State of West Bengal through one of the group companies, and as such, we keep on evaluating the prospects for further growth in the State. Although there are plans to go in for the projects as mentioned in the article, extent of the exact participation of Videocon Industries Limited in the said projects is not yet finalized.”
