Sensex closes day 113.79 points down - May 8, 2007

The Sensex lost about 110 points today taking the index to sub-13800 levels. The Sensex closed the day at 13,765.46 and lost 0.82%. Midcap index is down 1.10% while Smallcap index is down 1.15%. Auto, Bankex, Consumer Durables, Health Care and IT indices have lost about a percentage point in todays trade.

Sensex gainers of the day are Micro Inks, Britania Industries, Reliance Capital, Mirc Electronics, ICI India, ACC Ltd, BASF India, National Aluminum and Apollo Tyre. Top Sensex losers of the day are ISPAT Industries, Rashtriya Chemicals, Rolta, HCL Infosys, Cummins, GAIL India, SKF India, Birla Corp, IDBI and MPhasis Ltd

Nifty ended the day at 4077.00 points and is down 0.83%. CNX IT is down 1.54% while Bank Nifty is down 1.31%.

On the Nifty, top gainers of the day are ACC, National Aluminum, Siemens, Ster, PNB, SAIL, Grasim, Gujarat Ambhuja Cements, Suzlon and Tata Steel. Top Nifty losers are GAIL, Hero Honda, SBI, Glaxo, MTNL, Hindustan Petro, M&M, Infosys Technologies, BPCL and Tata Power.

In the CNX IT, 1 script advanced while 19 scripts declined. Moser Baer is up marginally and closed at 363. Top losers in the index are Rolta, Tech Mahindra, MPhasis, Financial Technologies and HCL Insys.

On the Bank Nifty, 2 stocks advanced and 10 declined. PNB and UTI Bank closed in the green while SBI, Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Union Bank and Canara Bank closed in the red.

Sensex dips into red - May 8, 2007 - 12:50 Noon

Sensex is trading at 13,870.84 and has lost 8.41 points and is marginally in red. Midcap index is holding in the green and is up 0.08% while Smallcap index is down 0.23%. IT Sectoral index is down 1.06%.

Nifty is at 4110.05 points and is marginally in the red. CNX IT is down 0.92% while Bank Nifty is in the green at 0.14%

Top gainers on Sensex in trades so far include Micro Inks, Mirc Electronics, Reliance Capital, Neyvelli Lignite, Syndiacate Bank, Siemens Ltd, Mangalore Refineries, Steel Authority, Britania Industries and ACC Ltd. Top Senses losers include Rashtriya Chemicals, Ispat Industries, Hero Honda Motors, Gujarat Mineral Development, Essel Propac, Rolta India, Fert Chem, D-Link, HCL Infosys and Wockhardt Ltd.

Indian stock markets trading positive - May 8, 2007 - 10:24 AM

The Indian Stock Markets opened positive this morning. Metal stocks are stealing the show. Earlier the US markets came out with a mixed bag. The Dow has hit a new high. The Asian markets are trading flat.

Nifty is at 4121.45 points - up 0.25%. CNX IT is down -0.53% while Bank Nifty is up 0.31%

Stocks that are topping the charts on the Nifty as of now include PNB, Hindalco, Tata Steel, National Aluminium, Dabur, SAIL, BPCL, Ranbaxy and Bajaj Auto. The losers list includes HCL Tech, Infosys Technologies, HDFC Bank, Tata Power, ITC, Wipro, Glaxo, BHEL, TCS and VSNL.

Sensex is up 38.83 points or 0.28%. Midcap index is up 0.45% while 0.23%. On the sectoral indices, metal stocks continue to steal the show. The Metal stock index is up 1.44% while most other indices are trading flat. The IT index is down -0.52%

Major gainers on the Sensex in the trades so far include Reliance Capital, Syndicate, Alok Industries, Mangalore Refineries, Bongaigaon Refineries, Parsvnath, Shipping Corporation, Sobha Developers, Hindalco and GMR Infra. On the losers list are Rashtriya Chemicals, Rolta India, Dredging Corporation, ISPAT Industries, HCL Technologies, Hexaware Ltd, Britania Industries, Geometric Software, HCL Infosys and EIH Limited.
