The media had reports that Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. may get pan-India mobile licence and may develop its land in Mumbai.
The Exchange, in order to verify the accuracy or otherwise of the information reported in the media and to inform the market place so that the interest of the investors is safeguarded, had written to the officials of the company.
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. has vide its letter inter-alia stated,” We have not provided any such information as given in the media. Decisions regarding pan-India mobile licence, are within the purview of licensing authority i.e Deptt. of Telecom, Govt. of India. As regards development of company’s land in Mumbai it is stated that the company is engaged in ongoing development work and as soon as any specific major development reaches the takeoff stage, relevant information shall be provided at the appropriate time.”

The derivative contracts in the underlying IVRPRIME & JPHYDRO have crossed 95% of the market-wide position limit on January 03, 2008. It is hereby informed that all clients/ members shall trade in derivative contracts of IVRPRIME & JPHYDRO by offsetting their existing positions till the open interest comes down to 80% of the market wide position limit.

The Asian Markets are trading mixed today. The Nikkei 225 is down 4.03% and has shed 616 odd points. Other markets KLSE Composite, NZSE 50 and Taiwan Weighted are marginally in the red. Today is the first trading day of 2008 for Nikkei. The hard hit is largely attributed to losses of Japanese exporting giants Nissan and Sony because of US economic health.
On the other hand, All Ordinaries, Shanghai Composite, Hang Seng, Jakarta Composite, Straits Times, Seoul Composite are in the green.
Earlier the US markets closed in the red. NYSE Composite is down by 0.95%. NASDAQ Composite and S&P 500 are down by over a percentage point.
