Market takes a flat day - February 18, 2010

BPCL gains 4%

The Indian stock markets had a flat day today. The NSE closed the day at 4883.95 down by 0.61%. CNX Midcap and Nifty Midcap 50 indices closed in the red. The BSE Sensex opened the day at 16,421.20, touched a high of 16,452.51 and a low of 16,287.17 to close at 16,327.84. The index slipped 101.07 points and is down 0.62%.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slipped 40 and 33 points respectively. Consumer Durables, Bankex, IT, Teck and Health care closed marginally in the green while the other sectoral indices marginally closed in the red.

Top NSE gainers of the day are BPCL (up over 4%), IDFC (up over 3%), AXIS Bank (up over 2%), HDFC Bank, NTPC, IDEA, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilevar (all up over 1%) and HDFC (marginally in the green).

Top losers of the day are Unitech (down over 5.2%), Suzlon, Reliance (down over 3%), Sterlite, Reliance Infra, Jindal Steel, JP Associates (down over 2%), Reliance Communications, GAIL and Ambuja Cements (all down over 1%)

Sensex up by 200 points with analysts recommending Budget stocks - February 17, 2010

Nifty closes the day up 1.2%

The Indian stock markets ended the day in the green for the second consecutive day after buying interest was seen in counters that analysts feel will see some positive announcements in the upcoming budget.

Sensex opened the day at 16,228.91, touched an intraday high of 16,480.89 and an intraday low of 16,228.91 to close at 16,428.91 managing a gain of 202.23 points or 1.25 in trade today. The BSE Midcap index and Small cap index gained marginally. Consumer Durables, Metal are clear sectorial winners with both the segments closing the day up by 3.34% and 3.24% respectively. Bankex, Capital Goods and Autos surged over 1.2% while Oil & Gas, FMCG, Power, PSU and Teck closed marginally in the green. IT and Realty closed in the red by 0.22% and 1% respectively.

The story at Nifty is no different. The Nifty had a gap-up opening and continued to stay in the green throughout. Thought a sign of selling is seen at mid-day, the index quickly bounced back to stay in the green. The Nifty closed at 4914 and is up 1.2%.

Top gainers of the day include Tata Steel (up 6%), Hindalco (Up 5%), Axis Bank, Stelite and HDFC Bank (all up over 3%), SAIL, Bharti Airtel, Tata Power, Siemens and Cairn (all up 2%).

The Nifty top losers of the day include Cipla, BPCL, DLF, Ambuja Cement, Suzlon (all down over 1%), Infosys, Idea, NTPC, Unitech and ONGC (all marginally down)

Ranbaxy comes to last minute rescue making markets end day in positive - February 16, 2010

Ranbaxy amongst top gainers; Bharti leads top loser charts

Weakness in the markets is pretty evident today, primarily because of pre-budget weakness and the way investors have reacted to the Bharti deal. The actual recovery of the markets is at the last one-hour of trade when almost all sectoral indices have turned positive and the sudden interest that has got built on Ranbaxy.

Nifty closed the day at 4855.75 and is up 1.12%. CNX IT is up 1.38% while CNX Midcap is up 0.52%. Top gainers on the Nifty today include Ranbaxy (up 8.5%), ACC, Ambuja Cements (both up over 2%), Hindalco, Hindustan Unileaver, Tata Motors (all up over 3%), Sterlite, Siemens, BPCL and M&M (all up over 2%). On the losers list are Bharti Airtel (down 4.1%), Axis Bank, Hero Honda, Jindal Steel (all marginally down).

The Sensex managed to open and close the day above 16K levels without dipping below it. The BSE Sensex opened the day at 16,042.18, touched a high of 16,310.39 and a low of 16,021.29 to finally close at 16,226.68 compared to previous closing mark of 16,038.35. The Sensex has gained 188.33 points or 1.17% in todays trade.

All BSE Sectoral Indices closed in the green. Leading the list are Metals, Auto, IT, Realty, Oil & Gas, Bankex, PSU and Capital Goods (all up over 1%) and FMCG, Power and Consumer Durables that are marginally in the green.

Indian stock markets dips marginally - February 15, 2010

BSE Sensex down by 114 points

The Indian stock markets closed the trading day today in the red marginally. The Nifty closed the day at 4801.95 barely managing to hold the 4800 mark. Nifty is down by 0.52% in the process. CNX IT is up 0.40%. CNX Midcap is down 0.41%

The BSE Sensex opened the day at 16,186.90, touched an day high of 16,227.04 and a day low of 16,011.82 to close at 16,038.35 compared to the previous 16,152.59 mark. Sensex is down by 114.24 points or 0.71% today.

Amongst the BSE sectorial indices, Health care, IT and Metal managed to close in the green. However, Capital goods, FMCG, Power, Auto, Realty, Bankex, PSU, Oil & Gas and Consumer Durables closed in the red.

Top gainers of the day are HCL Tech (Up 3.3%), Jindal Steel (Up 2.9%), IDFC, Hindalco, Cipla, BHEL and HDFC Bank (all up over 1%), Tata Steel, Hero Honda and M&M (all marginally up). Top losing stocks of the day include Bharti Airtel (down 9.2%), Sterlite, Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital, Tata Power and Reliance Infra (all down over 2%), Power Grid, Ambuja Cement, Hindustan Unileaver and SAIL (all down over 1%).

Nifty in positive gaining 1.47% - February 11, 2010

BSE gains over 200 points

After a series of dull trading days, the markets seems to have set what is considered an essential direction for its movement. The Nifty closed the day 4757.20 points up 1.47%. The CNX 100 is up 1.33%. The CNX 500 is up 1.08%. The CNX Midcap is up 0.69% while the Nifty Midcap 50 is up 1.06%

The BSE Sensex opened the day at 15,928.28, touched an intra-day high of 16,202.87 and an intra-day low of 15,928.28 to finally close above the 16K mark at 16,152.59 compared to previous day closure of 15,922.17. The Sensex has gained 230.42 and is up 1.45%. All BSE Sectoral indices have closed in the green. Oil & Gas, Auto and Reality are up over 2%. Metal, FMCG, Bankex, IT and Consumer Durables are up over 1%. Capital Goods, Power, PSU and Health Care are marginally up.

Top gainers of the day are Unitech, JP Associates, Reliance, M&M and Tata Motors (all up over 3%), ICICI Bank, Ambuja Cement, Jindal Steel & Power, Hero Honda and IDFC (all up 2%). On the loser side are Tata Power, BPCL, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, HDFC Bank and Grasim.
