Closing in red - Feb 27, 2007 @ Closing Bell

With just one day for the big Budget Day, the markets closed in the red after a having a volatile session which gradually turned towards the bears.

The Sensex closed at 13478.83 (-170.69) while the Nifty closed at 3893.9 (-48.10)
Midcap and Small cap closed in positive on the Sensex.
CNX NIFTY JUNIOR closed at 6958.25 (Opening: 6946.55) (+0.17%)
CNX IT closed at 5446.10 (Opening: 5521.60)(-1.37%)
BANK NIFTY closed at 5464.65 (Opening: 5533.75)(-1.25%)
CNX 100 closed at 3767.70 (Opening: 3806.60)(-1.02%)

HDFC Bank closed up by 24.55. Its last trade is at 976.20 - Up by 2.58% on Sensex
Amongst cement stocks, ACC gained 15.15. Its last trade is at 961.05 to close the day up by 1.6% on Sensex
Top pharma companies Ranbaxy and Dr. Reddy closed at almost the same place they have started.

Top gainers in the Midcaps include Thomas Cook (+10%), Nagarjuna Constructions (+7.1%), Mahindra Ges (+6.4%), Patel Engineering (+5.2%), Ansal Infra (+4.9%) and CMC Ltd (+4.75%) on the Sensex.

Big names in the FMCG sector closed in positive. Colgate Palmolive (+4.9%), Britania Industries (+3.5%), Marico (+2.2%), Godrej (+1.8%), Nestle (+0.5%) and Proctor & Gamble (+0.19%) made a good show on the Sensex

Declining stocks outnumbered Advancing stocks on the CNX IT. While 6 scripts advanced, 14 took the declines route. Amongst IT stocks that closed in positive are CMC (+3.67%), Tata Elxsi (2.54%), HTMT (+1.75%), GTL (+1.36%) and Moser Baer (+0.46%). Big IT names however ended in the red. The list include Rolta (-5.42%), Satyam Computers (-2.20%), TCS (-1.71%), Wipro (-1.47%) and Infosys Technologies (-1.40%)

USD/INR is at 44.22
