Markets open positive; Sensex gains 170 points - May 28, 2007 - 10:25 AM

Indian stock markets opened on a positive note with the Sensex gaining about 170 points in the early hours of trade this morning. Midcap sectoral index added 79.64 points while Smallcap index added 91.7. NIFTY is at 4286.10 and is up 0.89%. NIFTY JUNIOR is up 1.11%, CNX IT up 0.68% while BANK NIFTY is up 2.05% at few minutes post opening time of the stock market.
Banking stocks that witnessed heavy selling in the last two trading sessions surprising got the buyers attention this morning. The Bankex Sectoral Index on BSE is up over 2%. Metal sectoral index is up 1% while almost all other sectoral indices are marginally in the green.
Major gainers in the early hours of trade are HDFC Bank, Housing Development Finance Corporation, ICICI Bank, Reliance Communications, BHEL, ACC, State Bank of India, Bajaj Auto, Cipla and Dr. Reddy’s. Advancing stocks overnumber the declining stocks on the BSE
