Midcaps and Smallcaps shines

The Rail Budget introduced today looks like one that attempts to impress the common man. The Indian stock markets had a reasonably good day today. Both Sensex and Nifty closed marginally positive.
Sensex closed at 17,806.19 up 155.62 points or 0.88%. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index both closed up over 1.2%. BSE Sectoral Indices Consumer Goods, Power and Realty are all up over 2% in todays trade.
Nifty closed the day at 5270.05 up 1.33%. CNX IT is up 1.38%, Bank Nifty is up 0.87%. CNX 100 is up 1.38% while CNX Midcap index is up 1.47%
Mcleod Russel (India), a company into Tea plantations and related business is a star of the day. The script had seen only buyers today. Opening at Rs. 65.80, the script closed at Rs. 78.08 up by Rs. 13 or 19.98% with a volume of 978,004 shares. Punters say the possible carbon credit is the trigger for the price movement. The script is held by few schemes of Principal Mutual Fund to a little extent.
