Sensex closes down by 145.15 points - May 24, 2007

The markets took a negative route today with heavy selling from almost all sectors. Banking stocks had were down a bit. Metal and Oil stocks too saw heavy selling.
The NIFTY closed the day at 4204.90 and is down 0.97%. NIFTY JUNIOR is down by 0.74%, CNX IT up by mere 0.01%, BANK NIFTY down by 1.59% while CNX 100 is down by 0.94%.
All the stocks in the Bank Nifty closed the day in red. PNB lost over 4%. OBC, Union Bank and HDFC Bank closed in the red. It was a mixed day for IT stocks. On the CNX IT, 12 advanced while 8 declined.Subex, HCL Tech, HCL Insys, CMC and GTL closed in the green while Hexaware. MPhasis, Mastek and IFlex closed in the red.
The Sensex closed the day in red having lost 145.15 points in todays trade. Both Midcap and Smallcap indices closed marginally in red. Consumer Durables, IT and Auto sectoral indices managed to close in the green while most other Sectoral indices closed in red.
Top losers today include Tata Steel, Reliance Energy, Reliance Communications, Housing Development Finance, Hero Honda, Ranbaxy, HDFC Bank, Reliance and L&T. Notable gainers on the Sensex today are NTPC, HLL, Satyam, Tata Motors, Infosys Technologies and Gujarat Ambuja Cements.
