Sensex down 143.94 points - May 4, 2007

Heavy selling, particularly in the post-noon period has led the Sensex to loose 143 points in today’s trade. The Sensex closed at 13,934.27 - once again below the 14K level. The Sensex lost 1.02% today. Midcap index is down 0.05% while Smallcap index is down 0.32%. Consumer Durables sectoral index is strong and closed up 2.08%. Oil & Gas and Capital Goods sectoral indices are down 1%.

Nifty closed at 4117.35 and is down 0.81%. CNX IT is down 0.73% while Bank Nifty is down 0.65%.

Todays top gainers on the Sensex are Colgate Palmolive, Jindal, Aditya Birla Nuvo, Indus Ind Bank, Shipping Corporation, Essel Propac, Lanco Infra, Ispat Industries, GAIL India and Rolta India. Top losers of the day are United Phosp, Ramco System, Geometric Software, BPCL, Century Enka, Gillette, Jindal Steel, HDFC, JSW Steel and GMR Infrastructure.
